Spring 2013

FORGOTTEN LANGUAGE
Once I spoke the language of the flowers,
Once I understood each word the caterpillar said,
Once I smiled in secret at the gossip of the starlings,
and shared a conversation with the housefly
in my bed.
Once I heard and answered all the questions
of the crickets,
and joined the crying of each falling dying
flake of snow,
Once I spoke the language of the flowers...
How did it go?
How did it go?

The boys went camping with Jason, Larry, Jeff, and Uncle Gary this Spring at Lake Catherine.  The girls went over to visit and eat burgers.  The boys made a friend with the young boy in the next campsite.  They fished with Jeff and played a little.  A raccoon tore a hole in an extra tent in the middle of the night and stole the loaves of bread.

Renae, Brandi, Brittney Cowling, and I ran in the Trinity Mud Trek in Texarkana in the Spring.  It was pretty chilly out and we had to run through a disgusting buggy swamp.  When we came out of the other side we had dead bugs stuck to our legs.  It was so disgusting.  Renae nearly didn't make it, but we all felt accomplished afterwards.

We took the boys on their first canoeing trip on a warm Spring day on the Caddo River in Glenwood.  It was the Jacobi's idea.  We were a little worried at first, but it turned out to be a lot of fun.  Hudson nearly hyperventilated in the first 30 minutes.  Every time the boat sped up Hudson thought we were going over rapids and he was terrified sitting in the middle of the boat.  Holden just sat in the middle eating a bag of Doritos for the first 30 minutes.  After we stopped and had our lunch Hudson calmed down a lot.  He said when we got back in that he wasn't afraid anymore and he did well the rest of the trip.  Holden however got very tired and also said that he had to go to the bathroom but he will not go outside so he just held it until we got back to the canoe return.  They nearly tipped us over several times.  Holden decided he needed to sit in the front of the boat with me and then he would have to move back to the middle.  At one time Holden was in my lap and Hudson was hugging me from behind because he was terrified.  At that point I thought this cannot end well, but they both calmed down.  At the end they were able to throw rocks into the river and we never tipped, thank goodness.

Hudson 'graduated' from preschool in May.  Mrs. Faith and Mrs. Karen had a program planned.  Both boys participated.  It was precious.  They gave Hudson a diploma for graduating from Kids Day Out even though he went in the summer as well.  It turned out that even Holden did not return after summer.  When Hudson started Kindergarten at Lakeside, Holden transferred to Crossgate Learn and Play.  He didn't love it at first, but now he says 'why did you come and pick me up, I was playing with my friends.'  Cassie, Kason's mom had songs planned for the kids.  'Graduation' consisted of Hudson, Kason, and Josiah.  Friendships I hope he holds for life.
